Therapy for Adolescents

When Growing Up Feels Difficult

Growing up can be complicated. Adolescents are navigating changes in their identity, friendships, family relationships, school, social pressures and expectations, often while trying to understand emotions that can feel intense or difficult to manage.

Therapy may be helpful if a young person is experiencing anxiety, low mood, anger, low self-esteem, social difficulties, stress, changes in behaviour, or simply seems to be struggling with something they find difficult to talk about.

They don't need to have a specific problem or diagnosis to benefit from having someone outside their usual circle to talk to.

How Therapy Works

I provide a calm, supportive and non-judgemental environment where young people can feel comfortable being themselves. Building trust is an important part of the process, and I work at the young person's pace.

Talking is always an option, but it isn't the only way to communicate. Sometimes it can be easier to begin with something creative, practical or visual.

How Creativity Can Help

Art and creative activities can give adolescents a different way to express thoughts and feelings when finding the right words feels difficult. Drawing, painting, collage, imagery or other creative approaches can help them explore emotions, identity and experiences in a way that feels natural and less pressured.

There is no requirement to be "good at art" and no pressure to create anything specific.

What They Can Expect

The aim is to create a space where young people feel listened to, respected and accepted. Over time, therapy can help them understand themselves better, develop ways of managing difficult emotions, build confidence and feel more able to navigate the challenges of growing up.
